In addition, forest fires also result in increased carbon dioxide emissions, which contribute to global warming. The Amazon forest functions as the world’s lungs, absorbing CO2 and producing oxygen. When forests are burned, not only is carbon released, but the forest’s capacity to absorb greenhouse gases is also reduced. This creates a cycle that further exacerbates climate change. The expansion of agricultural land, especially for soybeans and cattle ranching, is one of the main causes of fires. Many companies clear forests to grow these crops, while governments often ignore this illegal practice for short-term economic gain. Increased global awareness of the issue of forest fires in the Amazon has begun to be seen, with various environmental organizations calling for action. However, the effectiveness of government agencies in Brazil in containing fires is still questionable. The need for cooperation between countries to protect and restore forests is very crucial. Apart from conservation efforts, education regarding the importance of forests and biodiversity must be increased, from local to global levels. Communities need to be empowered to understand the importance of protecting forests and play an active role in conservation actions. The use of modern technology such as satellite monitoring and drones can also be used to detect and prevent forest fires before they get out of control. With appropriate preventive measures and cross-sector collaboration, the threat of forest fires in the Amazon can be minimized, protecting biodiversity and life within it.
